OVERNIGHT HIKES

 

FEBRUARY 3-4, OVERNIGHT HIKE ON THE OHT from Ozone to Arbaugh Road. The distance is 14.8 miles, rated medium. Limited to 10 hikers. Contact Bob and Dawna Robinson for more info and to confirm.

 

DAYHIKES

 

January 6th, DAYHIKE on the Pigeon Roost Trail at Beaver Lake State Park. This hike will help keep that new years resolution in tact and should offer some nice views of Beaver Lake. Meet at the Pigeon Roost Trailhead at 9am. The distance is 8.4 miles and is rated medium. No pets please. Contact Bobby Shepperd to get more info.

 

February 3rd, Endurance DAYHIKE. Hike the entire 15-mile Butterfield Hiking Trail in one day! Meet at the Devil’s Den State Park visitor’s center at 8:00 am Saturday morning. Hikers will get their free permit at the park office and head out from there. Plans are to complete the trail in daylight (8 to 9 hours) but bring a headlamp just in case. Normally considered moderate the shortened time frame should upgrade it to least difficult. This would be a good trip for experienced endurance hikers or those who want to take it to the next level. February 17th, DAYHIKE the Mt. Magazine Trail from Cove Lake UP to Cameron Bluff Campground (9.7 miles, rated on the high end of medium). Meet at the beautiful new State Park Lodge (near the restaurant) at 8:30am. Contact Dean LaGrone for more info.

 

February 24th, DAYHIKE to Hemmed-In Hollow, rated medium to difficult. We will meet at the Compton Trailhead at 9am. Contact Dean LaGrone for info and directions.

 

February 25th, DAYHIKE the Cecil Cove Loop Trail 7 1/2 miles. The carpool will meet at 7:30 a.m. at the First Care Family Doctors South parking lot (Hwy. 16 & 265). This is also know as the Former Watson's Grocery/Bob's Market.

Those who prefer to meet us at the trailhead should Take Co. road 19 south from Compton hwy. 21/43. Beware of rough road conditions. The hike is rated easy to moderate. A side hike to the Goat Bluff is an optional non-sanctioned event for those who wish to separate from the group. Do so at your own risk. Those with questions can contact David LaRue .

 

TRAIL MAINTENANCE

 

January 13th, TRAIL MAINTENANCE. THIS TRIP HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO EXPECTED BAD WEATHER.

 

January 20th, TRAIL MAINTENANCE. Meet at Cass Work Center turnoff at 8:00am. No experience required. Bring water, work gloves and lunch. Tools provided. Contact Roy Senyard for more information and to sign up.

CLUB MEETINGS

 

There will be no general meeting in January, 2007.

 

February 11, 2023 OHTA GENERAL MEETING in Springdale. CLICK HERE for directions to the meeting location. Our program will be given by Kevin Fendley and Bill Herring about their wirlwind 8,000 mile trip to many of the great outdoor icons of the west to hike, bike, and kayak. We’ll start off with refreshments and social time at 7pm, with the meeting to follow at 7:30. E-mail OHTA for info.
