OTTERS KIDS DAYHIKE AT ALUM COVE, March 9. This is a beautiful scenic area that includes a giant natural rock bridge. The 1.1 mile hike is rated easy and great for anyone, kids and grown-ups alike (the hike out is all UPHILL, but we'll take it slow). Pam Ernst will lead. Meet her at the trailhead near Deer at 10am with a snack, daypack, water, and a picnic lunch (back at the trailhead). Call 870-861-5536 for more info.
OHTA GENERAL MEETING, March 9, 7:30pm in Fayetteville (location is between Hobby Lobby and Blockbuster Video at 3114 N. College Ave.). Our program will be given by Joe Neal, a biologist with the Ouachita National Forest. He will give a slide program titled "Breeding Birds in the Newton County area." OVERNIGHT FUN HIKE ON THE OUACHITA TRAIL, March 15-16. There are some great views along this 21.6 mile stretch of the OT from Hwy. 298 to Hwy. 7, and the hike is rated medium-difficult. Call Kerry Coe at 318-688-1162.

DAYHIKE HORSESHOE CANYON, April 19. Lots of trails to hike and bluffs to visit on this easy day at the private Horseshoe Canyon Ranch between Jasper and Ponca. OVERNIGHT FUN HIKE ON NEW OHT SECTION, April 19-20. Great views, blufflines and maybe a waterfall or two on this brand new trail. Bob & Dawna Robinson will lead this 18.1 mile medium hike. Call them at 479-783-6319 to sign up.

OHTA MEETING, Thursday, March 6th, 7pm at the Corps of Engineers Office, 324 W. 7th St. Jon Hiser will present the program originally scheduled for the December/February meetings on "What You Need to Carry in a Pocket Survival Kit." LOP IT & CHOP IT-TRAIL CONSTRUCTION ON OHT - SYLAMORE SECTION. Work continues on new trail construction. Your help is needed in completing the trail. From Mountain Home take Hwy 201 South and turn right at Hwy 341 (Push Mountain Rd). After passing the Lone Rock Fire Dept. meet at the clearing on the left just past Twin Creek Road/Twin Creek. See scheduled weekends listed above - meet at 8:30am. Bring water, lunch, eye protection and wear hunter orange. DAYHIKE ON THE DOGWOOD NATURE TRAIL Saturday, April 12th. This 3 mile round trip trail is a repeat performance to view dogwoods in bloom instead of eagles in flight. Dogwood trees are along the trail which ends at a bluff rising 200 feet above the lake. Meet at the trailhead at 9:30am. Bring water and a snack. Take Hwy 178 West to Lakeview and turn right at Boat Dock Rd. Once in the Park, make the first right past the entrance and meet at the stop sign. Call Wylaine Korbelik at 870-499-7315 for info.
